PENETRANT TESTING

One method of non-destructive material testing is

Penetrant testing (crack testing PT).

This reveals surface defects such as pores, cracks, bonding defects, overlaps, and folds. The penetrant test (PT crack test) is standardized according to DIN EN 571 and DIN EN ISO 3452.

PROCEDURE

In this procedure, a liquid (penetrant) is applied to the cleaned area of the workpiece to be tested. After a certain amount of time, it penetrates any existing cracks and should remain there after rinsing. A developer fluid makes the penetrant residues visible, sometimes with the aid of UV light.

APPLICATION

This method is also suitable for non-magnetizable materials and can be used with little effort, even under construction site conditions.
